👋 Aftermath 2017 filmaffinity

the high and the mighty

A family man (Arnold Schwarzenegger) seeks revenge against the airport controller (Scoot McNairy), whom he holds responsible for the death of his wife and daughter. Film based on real events, in which in July 2002 a plane crashed leaving numerous fatalities. (FILMAFFINITY)

«The film loses credibility early, but think 271 people dying unconvincingly in mid-air will lend intensity to the footage, even without anything resembling a story happening (…) Score: ★ (out of 5)»

«Lester fails to elevate the material above what a conventional after-dinner TV drama would demand (…) the viewer is left with no pleasure other than to second guess the infuriating predictability of every move.»

«The film is dreary in tone, it runs without any paraphernalia. The most remarkable thing about the performance is the creation of Scoot McNairy and his deep, plausible, inner heartbreak. (…) Score: ★★★★ (out of 5)»

So, with the presentation done and things clear, let’s start. «Aftermath is a drama, NOT an action movie. Although this seems obvious, it is likely that many will see the film expecting to see Arnold plotting a revenge in the purest «Commando» style, and nothing could be further from the truth. This is an intimate, serious film, with a slow and leisurely pace, which pampers each of the characters in the film and tries to show us how they are coping with the situation that is the starting point of the story. In this sense, I can’t complain about the performance of any of the actors, and what’s more, I think it’s about time to recognize that Arnold is not only worth as an inexpressive being to give life to a machine but he can also face interpretative challenges as he is presented in this film or in another one also mistreated as «Maggie».

However, I must admit that the story and the message it intends to convey has already been exploited many times and therefore, it does not come as a surprise. This makes the film have a certain flavor of constant «Deja vu»; but it is a must see for those of us who are fans of Arnold to see another side of him. If you have never been the least bit interested in Schwarzenegger’s films, it is quite likely that this movie will leave you cold, but because the subject matter, and forgive my insistence, is already overexploited.

🦝 deadly move

On June 23, 2015, it was announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger would star in a play by Javier Gullón, to be produced by Darren Aronofsky Protozoa Cuadros.[5] On November 4, 2015, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films (EFOF), began financing and producing the film along with Protozoa, and it would be directed by Elliott Lester. [6] Lionsgate Premiere would distribute the film, which would be produced by Protozoa Aronofsky, Scott Franklin and Eric Watson, and EFOF Randall Emmett and George Furla, along with Peter Dealbert. In November 2015, Highland Film Group sold the film to different international distributors in the American Film Market.[7] On December 24, 2015, Mariana Klaveno was cast to play Eve Sanders, the airline representative who breaks the news to Roman (played by Schwarzenegger) about his loss.[8] The film was released on December 24, 2015.

Filming on the film began on December 14, 2015, in Columbus, Ohio, and had previously been planned to begin shooting on December 6, 2015.[9][10] Filming was due to finish in mid-January 2016.
